An Itchy Skin Rash

Are skin rashes more common in the 21th century, and late 20th century, than before? This is a question that is on the mind of many medical professionals.

Is pollution to blame for our seemingly increased sensitivity to rashes? Are the materials we use these days more prone to causing an allergic reaction?

Thousands of articles have been written on the subject, yet medical science has not confirmed a link between the industrialisation and our skin problems. One possible cause of the increase could be our heavy use of cosmetics and antibiotics. Women and men alike are buying skin care products by the tons. Many of these products contain ingredients that have the potential of causing a skin rash in whoever applies to them to their skin.

Perfume is often cited as being a prime example of an ingredient that can cause irritation. Even in products that are meant for sensitive skin perfume can be found. An itchy skin rash can be the result if your skin doesn't like one of the ingredients. We must stress that even if you use completely “natural” products you can develop an itchy skin rash. Just because that particular product doesn't contain human-made ingredients, it's not a guarantee your skin can handle the natural ingredients.

Allergic reactions are the most common cause of itchy skin rashes developing. It often is quite difficult to pinpoint the source that causes your allergic reaction. There are no products that can prevent such reactions from occurring for every person on Earth, simply because humans have very specific reactions to different sources. A well known source of irritation is poison ivy, which results in an itchy skin rash in almost every person.

If that isn't enough, we must consider another possible source : food. Surely you have heard of people who cannot eat nuts, or chocolate, because of their body's reaction to these 2 foods. Those people who suffer from migraines are quite likely to not eat chocolate at all because it appears they react strongly to cacao. Finding which foods trigger an allergic reaction in your body can be a daunting task. It's a matter of deduction, which is a process that can take many months to complete.

It is also possible to have yourself tested for common allergies by requesting certain tests from your doctor. He or she will be able to provide you with all the details about these tests. Doctors perform these tests frequently, they are short and can be very helpful in finding sources of irritation.
